Dear Marvel. Dear Disney. I have watched every MCU movie on opening day since Iron Man in 2008. I have loved the Infinity Saga with a passion (except for maybe one or two movies). Such quality. But ever since ‘Avengers: Endgame’ something has been … off somehow. I went to see ‘Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania’ last night with my usual group of friends. After the movie we decided that we won’t be going to MCU movies religiously any more. The quality of the product is simply not there. Except for ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ (which was a Sony movie technically), no single entry in the MCU since ‘Endgame’ has felt truly good. What are the problems then? Well, firstly: The writing. The stories don’t work. The characters are weak. They don’t earn their successes. We are just supposed to accept everything. Also, the humor is getting more and more goofy and silly. It’s undercutting the *verisimilitude* of the MCU when everything is a joke. Secondly: The lack of over-arching story. In the past I was looking forward to each “chapter” of the MCU because every entry felt like it mattered. Now, it feels like a chore. Where is it all going? What is the threat? We don’t know and it’s hard to care. Thirdly: The visual effects. Enough with the LED screens and green screens already. It looks flat and un-dynamic. Like actors on a sound stage. Shoot on location. Lastly: The quantity. I haven’t even touched on the Disney+ shows. There’s just too much. And none of it is truly *great* . It’s all just “OK” or worse. Solution: Hire better talent to write and direct. Put out fewer movies and make them good. Maybe 2-3 per year. No more. Put story and character before anything else. Make characters *earn* their victories. Stop relying on lazy visuals. It may be a time-saver but we can tell it’s an LED screen. I won’t be going to premiers of MCU movies any more. And I’ve cancelled my Disney+ subscribtion. Not out of rage or anything. Just out of boredom and disappointment. I’m not an angry troll. I’m a huge Marvel and MCU fan. It’s just gotten too silly and lazy for me to stay invested. PS: I just want to say: Jonathan Majors was a great Kang. He’s a huge talent. The movie he was in was just really not very good.
